What is touchless processing? Meaning and explanation

In touchless processing, an invoice or receipt is automatically received, recognised, coded, checked and booked. An employee only gets involved when the system is unsure or a rule requires it. The share of documents processed without a manual step is also called the automation rate or auto-booking percentage. Fully touchless processing for every document is rarely the goal: there are always exceptions that require human judgement.
