What is recurring invoice? Meaning and explanation
A recurring invoice (terugkerende factuur) is an invoice sent or received at a fixed interval for the same or a similar amount, such as a monthly subscription, rent or maintenance contract.
Definition
A recurring invoice (terugkerende factuur) is an invoice sent or received at a fixed interval for the same or a similar amount, such as a monthly subscription, rent or maintenance contract.
Also known as: Terugkerende factuur, Periodieke factuur, Abonnementsfactuur, Recurring invoice
Recurring invoices occur on both sides of the administration. On the sales side, they are subscriptions, service contracts and fixed monthly amounts a business invoices periodically. On the purchase side, they are rent, telecoms, software subscriptions and energy. Typically, the supplier, description and often the amount are largely the same each period.
For a firm, recurring purchase invoices are ideal for automation: they are booked the same way every month and rarely need human judgement. On the sales side, automatic invoicing helps clients not to forget a period. At the same time it makes sense to flag deviations, such as a subscription that has suddenly become more expensive.
Autoboeker recognises recurring invoices and regular suppliers during processing and proposes GL account and VAT code based on history, for all four connected packages. In bank matching for Exact Online, Twinfield and SnelStart, recurring payments are recognised. In the invoicing module, monthly or periodic sales invoices are created automatically; your client sets them up once.
Example
A gym invoices the same membership fee every month. With the invoicing module those invoices are created automatically, and the monthly rent invoice for the premises is booked automatically on the purchase side.
