Definition
An audit log is a chronological record of all actions in a system, such as who created, changed or approved an entry and when, so every change is traceable.
Also known as: Audit log, Auditlog, Audit trail, Activiteitenlog
An audit log, also called an audit trail, records which user or system performed which action, at what time and with what result. In bookkeeping this covers creating, changing, approving and deleting entries and settings. A good audit log is complete, cannot be altered afterwards and is easy to consult.
For a firm, an audit log is essential for quality control and accountability. When a client asks questions, or during an internal review or audit, you need to be able to show how an entry came about. Once AI prepares or performs entries on its own, that becomes even more important: you want to know why each automatic entry was made the way it was.
In Autoboeker, every action by people and AI is traceable in the audit logs, for all four connected packages. Each entry also shows a confidence score and explanation. Every match and reconciliation in bank matching is traceable too. With Atlas, every action is recorded in the audit log, with the context and the rule it acted on. Audit logs are included in the Kantoor plan.
Example
A client asks why an invoice was booked to marketing costs. The audit log shows the AI proposed it based on earlier entries and a colleague approved the proposal.
