A receipt is a simple proof of purchase, usually a till receipt or card payment slip. In the books, a receipt supports that an expense is business-related. For VAT deduction, a till receipt can under conditions serve as a simplified invoice, but a card slip without specification is usually not sufficient. Receipts are booked as expenses, often through a cash or bank entry.
For many firms, receipts are a source of delay. They are small, get lost and often arrive weeks later, while the related bank transaction has long been visible.
